2010 Wings Lacrosse Game 10 (at Orlando 3-12-10) & Game 11 (vs Minnesota 3-13-10)

By Tom Hoffman

The Philadelphia Wings (2-7) will play their first set of back to back games this season beginning Friday evening when they travel to Orlando, Florida to face the Titans (4-3) at 7:30 PM at Amway Arena. Saturday the Wings return to the Wachovia Center to meet the Minnesota Swarm (4-4) at 7 PM. Both games can be seen live on the NLL Network.

History

The Wings are 4-5 against the former New York franchise after losing the season opener 13-8 on January 8 in Orlando. All time on the road the Wings are 2-3 against the Titans. Against the Swarm the Wings are 5-7 all time, 3-3 at the Wachovia Center. In 2009 the teams split a pair of 13-12 games in Philadelphia. On February 21 the Wings jumped out to a big lead and held on for the win behind hat tricks from Merrick Thomson and Athan Iannucci. Former Wings Dan Marohl (six points) and Ryan Ward (five points) led the Swarm. Minnesota took the rematch on March 14 when Marohl scored with five seconds left in regulation to seal the victory. Iannucci scored five goals to lead the Wings.

Last Game

The Wings were close early but could not keep up with their opponent falling 15-7 to the defending NLL champion Calgary Roughnecks Saturday evening in Calgary. Kyle Wailes scored three goals while Drew Westervelt added five points, including four assists for the Wings while Brandon Miller gave up 13 goals before being pulled for Rob Blasdell late in the third quarter. Minnesota last played February 27 when they traveled to Denver and defeated the Mammoth 13-12.

Notes

In addition to Dan Marohl, another former Wing making an appearance Saturday will be Philly's top pick in the 2008 entry draft, Sean Thomson. Thomson was dealt to the Swarm during the offseason. Shawn Nadelen, currently on injured reserve, is the lone Wing to have played for Minnesota, back in the Swarm's inaugural season in 2005.
